Day ride from Shrewsbury over the mountains to the sea. Best done on a fine day as the views from the tops are fantastic. Some mighty fine twisties, beware the first few on the A458 after Mallwyd are very tight.

Leave Shrewsbury town centre over the Welsh Bridge, at roundabout take 2nd exit, follow signs for Welshpool, turn right onto A5 for about 7 miles, at Shotatton take a left and stay on this road for many miles until you see a left for Bala, at end turn right. This brings you over the Berwyn Mountains, beware two sharp hairpins on the way down, and into Bala. Then awesome A4212 to Trawsfynydd, turn right and stay on this road into Porthmadog. Turn around and at Penrhyndeudraeth take a right for the toll bridge (30p in silver coins) for Harlech, and on into Barmouth. Excellent A496 out of Barmouth, turn right at end for Dolgellau and stay on A470 long climb up Dinas Mawddy, beware sharp bend at top. Fabulous descent to Mallwyd, beware mobile camera in horsebox. Left at Mallwyd onto A458, bends are VERY sharp and road usually wet. After 15 miles left onto A495 for Meifod, 1.5 miles after the village take a right to Guilsfield, nice bends here, at the fuel station take a left to Guilsfield, then follow signs back to Shrewsbury.
